Acquired by the Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy in the 1920s, Star of the Sea was used initially as a place of rest and recreation. Over the years its use was extended by the Congregation into what would become a nationally renowned venue for Retreats and conferences.

In 2013, the baton of Trusteeship was handed on to the Diocese of Elphin who now look forward to building on the wonderful work of the Sisters, to enabling the unique character of the Star of the Sea to serve new generations of the faithful.
The Building
The Centre has a large residential wing enabling guests to enjoy their visit in comfort.
The residence contains 25 bedrooms, 11 of which are double en suite rooms.
There are also two conference rooms, both with ocean views. The larger conference room can accommodate about 70 people, the smaller room about 30.

The house has an open and a closed sun veranda, both giving directly on to the sea.

There is a large public Oratory in the house, a small private prayer room as well as a room for set aside for quiet reflection.
An adjoining enclosed walled garden affords quiet, private outdoor space for reflection or meditation.
